The Director of the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit does not believe that violent crime in Scotland is 11 times higher than official reports and at no time has he said this. The only figure the SVRU recognises as accurately reflecting the levels of violence in Scotland is that provided in the Scottish Crime and Justice Survey 2016/17 which estimates around 43% of violent crimes were reported to police. The 11 times figure was discussed with a reporter, but not by the director. The figure was incorrectly referenced by the SVRU. We clarified our position on this with the reporter as soon as the article was published. A copy of the Scottish Crime and Justice Survey can be found here
